Taveggia Milano 1909

Since 1909 our pastry chefs have been interpreting traditional recipes, personalizing their character and enriching each flavor. A pastry gives emotions, because even the most delicate taste can bring anyone with a mind to a distant memory in time. We pay particular attention to the selection of ingredients, using only soft wheat flour, natural yeast, high quality butter, fresh eggs, candied fruit strictly by expert hands and the best chocolate available.

Tradition has it that a coffee for breakfast - often accompanied by the typical rice pudding made according to the original recipe - is the best way to enjoy the atmosphere of the early twentieth century that one breathes by immersing oneself in the warmth of the liberty style room.

A whole selection of home-made pastries signed Taveggia 1909, along with cakes, chocolates and other delicacies are available to start the day with a different taste.

TAVEGGIA 1909' HISTORY

A refined and rich history is waiting to be pampered between fragrant notes of our tea and unmistakable sweetness of our chocolate. A timeless space, ideal for any time of day.In the end of the twentieth century that preceded the First World War, were born coffee, unaware of the impending decline, interpreted well the spirit of the time. The Taveggia, born in 1909 in Porta Venezia, with a history little known that sink in 'nineteenth century, and in 1930 moved to Via Visconti di Modrone.

Renovated and refurbished by Gaetano Moretti, architect of the Odeon cinema, he was one of the prototypes of the coffee-pastry of the Milanese bourgeoisie between the two wars. It was, as they say, well attended and over the years, counted prestigious clients such as Carla Fracci, Wally Toscanini and Renata Tebaldi. The stubbornness of Viennese coffee with which preserved the original furniture, giving customers the feeling that time there you could stop. The Taveggia was, writes John Gandini: "a rare retreat in the city, where you could write a guest appearance, have the pleasure of meeting and polite conversation, a drink at the right price. I wonder if you shall find that corner of the bar, at the bottom , with the view of those who enter. It was there that, not just a few years ago, I saw a beautiful lady with a smiling daughter, both with blue eyes. A I married her, she could not resist the magic of Taveggia".

Taveggia, while the world of coffee collapsed, continued to play calmly, unabashedly, its role as immobile space, time travel, of last resort for the castaways in the city.

AN UNCHANGED RECIPE, THE RICE PUDDING 

A dessert whose fame crosses the ocean, attracting many tourists and curious who can't wait to take a bite of the irresistible rice pudding.

For more than a hundred years, the same recipe has remained unchanged at Taveggia 1909: a pastry basket filled with custard with rice, vanilla, sugar and milk is handmade by our pastry chefs and is the perfect excuse to match a coffee or a cappuccino in the morning.
